Quick answer

What makes a goal SMART?

SMART goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound. The criteria are forty years old and still the clearest test in goal setting. Two of the five letters are where goals fail in practice, and both fail for the same reason: they are judged once at goal-setting time and never checked again.

Which part of SMART do teams get wrong?

Measurable, usually. A goal with a number attached is not automatically measurable; it is measurable when there is a data source that produces the number without someone deciding what it should be. If a goal's current value comes from a person's estimate, the M is decorative.

How do you know if a goal is Achievable?

By looking at the capacity behind it rather than at the ambition in it. Achievable is a statement about resources, and it can only be assessed if you can see what else the same people are committed to. That is why it is the letter most often assumed rather than tested.

Are SMART goals better than OKRs?

They answer different questions. SMART is a quality test you apply to a goal you have already chosen; OKRs are a structure for choosing and aligning goals across teams. Many teams write OKRs and then run the SMART test over each key result, which is a reasonable use of both.

How should SMART goals be tracked?

From the work, if you want the M to survive the quarter. When a goal connects to the tasks and projects moving it, Measurable becomes a count rather than a claim, and Time-bound gains an early warning because pace against the deadline is visible weeks before the deadline.

Use cases

Built for the moments a measurable goal stops moving.

The goal passes every letter of the test. The number still moves late. These are the moments teams turn Vindaris on.

The platform

One connected system, from the goal down to a single task.

A goal and the work delivering it do not belong in separate tools that someone reconciles before the check-in. In Vindaris they share one model, so a closed task moves the goal above it on its own.

01 / Connected model

Goals and work in one graph

Goals, their measures, and the projects and tasks beneath them connect on an open canvas with no enforced hierarchy. A personal goal can feed a team goal and a company objective at once.

02 / Work Graph

Risk that finds you first

The Work Graph reads the edges between each goal and the work beneath it, then alerts the owner when connected work stalls, a check-in lapses, or the measure stops moving with the effort.

03 / Two-way sync

Work stays where it lives

Connect HubSpot, Jira, Planner, Asana and Google Tasks. The M in a SMART goal stops being a number someone maintains and becomes a count of what the connected work actually did.

Step 01 | Alignment Canvas

Define your SMART goals

Write your goals in the strategy narrative or build them on the Alignment Canvas, each one specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound. Cascade from company level to individuals.

  • Every goal carries its measure and its date, not just a title.
  • A personal goal can feed a team goal without being duplicated.
Alignment Canvas: define your smart goals
Step 02 | Task Board

Connect the tools that make a goal measurable

Plug in HubSpot, Microsoft Planner, Google Tasks, Asana or Jira. Bidirectional sync pulls tasks and projects into Vindaris while your team stays in their own workflow.

  • No team migrates. The work stays where it happens.
  • Every synced task keeps a tag pointing at its source tool, so Measurable holds up under scrutiny.

Step 03 | My Priorities

Map tasks to goals

Vindaris suggests which tasks and projects connect to each goal based on labels, owners and structure. Confirm the mapping, and the goal tree is live with real work behind every node.

  • Suggestions come from the work, not from a naming convention.
  • Each owner sees their own goals ranked by deadline and impact.
My Priorities: map tasks to goals
Step 04 | Work Graph

Get alerted when goals are at risk

The Work Graph evaluates task progress behind each goal against its time-bound deadline. When work stalls or pace falls off, the owner is notified before the date turns it into a miss.

  • Twelve alert types, each with the blocking work named.
  • Scheduled AI summaries land in Slack, Teams or email.

Risk alerts

The Work Graph watches every SMART goal and tells the owner what is at risk.

Vindaris reads the edges between each goal and the tasks driving it. When a goal stalls, a deadline creeps up, or a task drifts loose, the owner hears about it with the reason attached, well before the target date. Each alert is execution risk caught while there is still time to act.

Work GraphThe alert names the goal, the pace gap and the specific task that caused it.

Alignment CanvasA task with no SMART goal above it shows up as an orphan on the canvas, not as effort nobody can account for at review.

Built for the way you work

Your framework, your language, your data in Europe.

Vindaris takes SMART seriously on the two letters tools usually skip: Measurable, which needs a real data source, and Achievable, which needs visible capacity.

Runs SMART goals alongside everything else

Vindaris ships without a prescribed methodology, so a SMART goal is a goal with a measure and a date attached. Teams that outgrow the format can move to OKRs or Rocks in the same workspace without a migration or a second tool.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions, answered

What is SMART goal software?

SMART goal software helps teams define goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound, then track progress against them. Vindaris adds traceability by connecting each SMART goal to the tasks and projects that actually move it forward.

How do SMART goals connect to strategy?

In Vindaris, SMART goals can nest under higher-level objectives, OKRs, or other strategic frameworks. This creates a clear line of sight from company strategy to individual goals to the daily work delivering them.

Can Vindaris track SMART goals and OKRs together?

Yes. Vindaris supports SMART goals, OKRs, KPIs, OGSM, Balanced Scorecard, and Hoshin Kanri in one platform. Teams can use whichever framework fits their planning style while leadership keeps a unified view.

How does Vindaris make SMART goals traceable?

Each SMART goal links to tasks in Jira, Microsoft Planner, Google Tasks, or HubSpot. Progress updates automatically from task completion, so you always know whether a goal is on track before the deadline arrives.
