EOS Vision/Traction Organizer (V/TO)

The V/TO is EOS's answer to strategic plans nobody reads: two pages, filled by the leadership team, that connect long-range vision to this quarter's priorities. The vision half answers who we are and where we are going; the traction half answers what we will actually do about it this year and this quarter. Fill it as a team, revisit it every quarter, and keep it to two pages.

How to use this template

  1. Fill the vision page as a leadership team and reach genuine agreement. A vision only one person believes is not shared.
  2. Keep core values to a short, real list. Values that describe everyone (integrity, teamwork) describe no one and guide nothing.
  3. Turn the three-year picture into this year's plan and this quarter's Rocks. The traction page is where vision becomes work.
  4. Revisit the V/TO every quarter. It is a living document; a V/TO filed and forgotten is just another plan nobody reads.

Frequently asked questions

What does V/TO stand for?

Vision/Traction Organizer. It is the two-page document in EOS that captures a company's vision on one page and the traction (one-year plan, quarterly Rocks, issues) to achieve it on the other.

Who fills out the V/TO?

The leadership team, together. The shared act of agreeing on the vision and the Rocks is most of the value; a V/TO written by one person and handed down does not create alignment.
